About your instructor

Karen started sewing 40 years ago.  After school lessons, she continued learning and developing skills at home with help from her mother on a variety of sewing machines.  Dressmaking was her particular passion and she continued to make clothes while at university training to be a doctor.

She worked as a doctor for 20 years in the NHS, until she developed ill health due to stress.  Having left medicine, she took time to recover.  During the pandemic, she got out her old sewing machine and fired it up “for the love of scrubs”.  This renewed her passion for sewing.

She has found sewing, particularly dressmaking, therapeutic mentally, psychologically and spiritually.  It has given her confidence in her creative self.  It is this element of sewing which she wishes to share with others.
